Hampshire Junior Chess Association Wants You for U11 EPSCA team

Would your child like to represent their county (i.e. Hampshire) in March 2026?
We are recruiting U11 players for Hampshire teams playing in the  annual EPSCA teams competition on Saturday,  March 14th (U11)  playing at Bohunt School, Farnborough, Hampshire.
Your child should either attend school in Hampshire or reside in Hampshire  and be born on 1st September 2014 or earlier.

EPSCA Under 11 Inter-Association Championships South West Zone

The organiser of the South West zone is Chris Strong (Somerset), who will circulate further details.

The venue is:  Taunton Preparatory School, Staplegrove Road, Taunton, TA2 6AD

A team shall consist of twelve (12) players plus four (4) reserves.

U11 is 1/9/14 or later; U9 is 1/9/16 or later

Our team will be managed by Maha Chandar.

The 8 teams competing will be Hampshire plus Oxfordshire, Barnet, Richmond(2), Sussex(2), Somerset and Buckinghamshire and ?

Parents or approved adults are responsible for their children outside the playing hall.

Please note the following rules, which have recently been altered or clarified: –

There will be four rounds most likely paired according to Swiss team pairings.

The rate of play is all moves in 25 minutes plus 10 seconds per move from the start.  If digital clocks are not available, the rate of play is all moves in 40 minutes.

If either player has less than five minutes left on the clock and an illegal move is made, the Arbiter may award the opponent two minutes for the first offence, and two minutes for a second offence.  Three illegal moves during the game by the same player will lead to the loss of the game.

The timetable is as follows:

Arrival – by 11.00am

Board Stewards Meeting – 11.15am

First Round – 11.45am

Second Round – 1.10pm

Third Round – 2.35pm

Fourth Round – 4pm

Prize Giving – 5pm

If play is running late, there will be at least 10 minutes between rounds.

EPSCA Girls Under 11 Inter-Association Championships

The Under 11 Girls Final will be held on Saturday 22nd March 2025

A team shall consist of twelve (12) players.

The organiser is Nigel Dennis and the venue is Riverside Academy, Caversham, Reading, Berkshire, RG1 7EQ

The arbiter will be appointed by Peter Purland

The ? teams entered are Hampshire plus ?

Parents or approved adults are responsible for their children outside the playing hall.

Hampshire Junior Chess Association is delighted to announce the appointment of FIDE Trainer Lucas Piecha as the EPSCA Under-9 and EPSCA Under-11 Team Manager. Winchester based Lucas adds these Team Manager roles to his Head Coach role and will be a popular appointment.

Lucas will be selecting Hampshire juniors for the March 2020 series of EPSCA matches including the first EPSCA match to be hosted by HJCA in many years !

Ollie Blacklock : Under 11 Team Manager

Hampshire Junior Chess Association is delighted to announce the appointment of Ollie Blacklock as our Under 11 Team Manager.

Ollie also manages the Under 9 team and the two teams have a large overlap of players.

We wish Ollie all the best in his new role and look forward to his contributions to the fortunes and success of Hampshire Junior Chess Association.
